I almost didnt want to do a review of The Secret Tunnel. Honest. I wanted it to remain my secret to enjoy without the crowd.
But, I have no choice. The food.. the atmosphere.. the service is just too good not to share.
The first thing that stood out. The prawns are fresh and crunchy. Wow. So good. The tomyam it came in. It had just the right amount of spiciness and was just a little sour, enough to whet the appetite and not until you have to squint your eyes every spoonful.
The deep fried siew yoke was so crispy and tasty. The pork slices were some of the prime pieces and had some fat and lots of meat. It was so lovely, it melts in your mouth.
Next, the crispy fried morning glory and crispy fried enoki mushrooms we nice and crispy and mouth wateringly flavourful. In Malaysian,"So SEDAP!"
Finally, the steamed chicken was salty enough to water the mouth but not overbearingly salty.
For dessert, we ordered the Mango Sticky Rice and Thap Thim Krop. Good gosh.. the mango.. is just so sweet and soft. Lovely! The jackfruit was sweet and the water chestnut was crunchy.
The whole experience was made the better with the great service provided. Friendly banter and polite waiters and waitresses.
With deep regret, I had to do this review and share this Secret Tunnel with anyone who comes to Penang and want to enjoy great Thai food.
